SHIGERU UCHIDA, was born in Yokohama in 1943. Graduated from the Kuwasawa Design School in 1966. He established Uchida Design Studio in 1970, and Studio 80 in 1981. He takes on a variety of work, from design of commercial space, residence, and furniture, to art direction of large commercial facilities and environmental development. In 1987, he received Mainichi Design Award. His major works are “Y’s Super Position” (1983) and general direction work for UNY “Apita” (1982~). He has written “Interiors of Uchida, Mitsuhashi, and Studio 80” (1987), “The Era of the Chairs” (1988) and others. He has lectured widely in Japan, as well as other foreign countries.
