"Catwalk" an exhibition of
remarkable glass at Equinox.
Wednesday 18th October - Saturday 12th November 2005.
Kjell Engman. Born 1946. Retained by Kosta Boda since 1978, he has a studio
at Boda glassworks. A tirelessly productive visual artist with unbounded
imagination and a passion for narrative, who finds free expression
through both utility glass and art glass. He gets his inspiration from
the most diverse sources, not least from the animal kingdom and the
world of music and entertainment. He often works on large installations
in which he also combines elements of sound and light. He is frequently
commissioned for public works both in Sweden and abroad. He is
personally responsible for one fifth of Kosta Boda’s catalogue range.
He has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in virtually every major
country in the World and is a household name, if not a national 'hero'
in his native Sweden.
" I can’t express myself
particularly well either in speech or writing, so, for me, glass is a
way of telling a story. As an ageing rock musician, I also think of
glass in terms of music. I start out with personal, everyday images and
then create music with the glass."
He now presents the "CATWALK" collection on this, his first
occasion to exhibit in the UK. or Ireland. It is with great pride that
Equinox now presents this collection.
Perhaps treat yourself to one of the stunning pieces of glass art available
for purchase from the collection of catalogue, limited edition or unique
pieces on show. Prices range from £20 - £300 for a 'Collection'
piece, £350 - £1000 for a limited edition piece
and £1500 - £5000 for the unique pieces.
Equinox also has a very limited number of Kjell Engman books, signed by the
artist during his stay in Belfast. These books will accompany the
purchase of unique or limited edition pieces at no extra cost, (whilst
book stocks last.)

Professor Oiva Toikka’s
apparently limitless imagination, combined with a sophisticated
knowledge of glass, has made it possible for him and his glassblowers to
create small miracles of life from glass for over 30 years.
Birds is more than a collection of artifacts, it is a collection of stories.
The shape of some birds are inspired by nature, others are created in
the mind of the artist. Every bird has its own character and tells a
different story. Birds are individually handmade which makes each bird
unique and they are sought after by collectors all over the world. No
two birds are alike, each features its own distinctive colour variations.
Every year new birds are added to the collection. |

Andy Warhol was the true
master of Pop Art. The former commercial artist used popular culture as
the source for his thought provoking works. he sought the truth in the
labels spread all over the world by the mass media.
From his legendary ' Campbell's ' soup can to his many portraits from Goethe
to Monroe: Warhol was a challenging genius who turned the triteness of
our world into an art event. |
